With a savings passbook, you must come to the bank to process transactions such as withdrawals and deposits, as well as have your interest printed into your passbook. On the other hand, statement savings accounts allow you to process transactions without a passbook that may get lost or stolen. You simply need to know your account number, then fill out a deposit or withdrawal slip supplied at your local branch. When attached to your primary checking account, statement savings allows you to have an ATM (debit) card so that you may withdraw money at any ATM, unlike with a savings passbook.
